Proposal Guidelines
Thank you for your interest in The Collins Press. Please browse
our website to learn more about the kinds of books we publish.
We do not publish poetry, short stories, drama or literary
criticism and are discontinuing adult fiction and children's
fiction for the present. Unsolicited material in any of these
categories will not be returned.
Your submission package should include the following:
• A cover letter.
• A self-addressed, stamped envelope large enough to
return your work. Even if you do not want your work returned,
please enclose a letter-sized envelope for our response.
• A one-page (250 words) synopsis giving an overview
of the entire book. For non-fiction, please include a table
of contents. If applicable, subheads should be included that
explain the content at a greater level of detail.
• A CV that includes an outline of any past publishing
or writing experience.
• Either a complete manuscript or at least three sample
chapters. These do not have to be in chronological order.
Selected chapters should include what best represents your
work's basic idea, its quality and distinctive features. Prepare
the material carefully. If the manuscript is full of typographical
or grammatical errors, the reviewer's attention will be diverted
from the content. Whether submitting sample chapters or a
complete work please advise us of the word count for the complete
work.
The package should be addressed to:
Mr Con Collins, The Collins Press,
West Link, Park, Doughcloyne, Wilton, Cork, Ireland.
Please allow a period of eight to twelve weeks for a response
from us regarding your submission.
Important Notes:
Initial contact by email about a publishing proposal is acceptable;
however we only accept submissions in hard-copy format and
do not accept submissions by email.
